The Best Way To Predict The Future Is To Create It Yourself

During my twenties I discovered a metaphysical bookstore called The Omega Centre in Toronto, Canada. I was 17 and it was my own way of rebelling against the fuddy duddy religious home life of my childhood. For the next few years I consulted a few psychics and no longer see them. However, this does not mean that psychics aren't for real. They are. The challenge is that the best psychics are few and far between. Most of them out there are intuitive but empathic and will dazzle you. The test of a true psychic - they don't care whether you are a repeat client or not, whether you are happy with what they say, and have an intention to guide you rather then tell you what to do. Most of all... a genuine psychic is humble and operates from a strong spiritual base guiding their ethics.

To this day there are only six psychics in the world whom I would recommend based on my own criteria. Why? If I refer anyone to these people I can sleep at night. A genuine psychic is often accurate over a long period of time. They do not collude with the client and actually keep their empathy in check so as to not merge with your version of events. Look also at the person's home life and overall demeanor: would this be a person whom you would spend regular time with? Are they grounded? The genuine psychic actually looks normal and wouldn't stand out in a crowd in that woo-woo way.

Before checking out a psychic ask yourself why. Many times people see a psychic when they should consult a certified cognitive behavior therapist. Psychic data is symbolic and it is the interpretation that often causes readings to seem not to come true. No psychic is 100% accurate because of subjective interpretations that bring in their own world views. There is no such thing as fate. Life is choice not chance. A genuine psychic will guide you towards the highest reality they can tune into at the time. You are still in the driver's seat of your life. Like the pilot in the plane and the air traffic controller who sees from a higher vision, removed from the situation, the pilot is still holding the wheels. If an unforeseen rainstorm happens it is the pilot's responsibility to adjust accordingly. A genuine psychic will never try to take over your life by offering miracle results, just the best intentions. Most of all... a genuine psychic will never allow a dynamic to occur whereby they become a guru and the client surrenders personal power.

For the record, if you really feel you need a psychic reading here are the few people you may want to consider:

For the record too ... I've experienced their work personally and attest to their ethics. There is also a wonderful writer and intuitive in Boston named Lynn Robinson (www.lynnrobinson.com) who I haven’t personally consulted but has had rave reviews over the years.

For those who are keen on medical intuition there is Dr. Judith Orloff and Dr. Mona Lisa Schultz who are both board-certified MDs.

Remember - the genuine article is few and far between. Your own gut instincts are often the best and only guidance you need.

Now, at 30, my best opinion is... let God lead the way and surrender to prayer and a divine will. If you are in San Francisco there is a lovely Byzantine Church in Russian Hill. In Toronto there is Taizé Prayer at the Newman Centre affiliated with the University of Toronto.

Wonderful post and advice. I have read Dr. Judith Orloff's book Positive Energy and found it a wonderful tool in teaching myself how to listen to my body. A must read for anyone trying to become more centered.
