Is Psychic Ability Real?

Psychic energy, or “psi” is the transfer of information or energy that cannot be explained by a physical process. People who can do this consciously are called psychics. But does it really exist? Many don’t think so - either because they’ve never experienced it themselves, or because they’ve heard about or had personal experience with one of the great number of fake psychics making money off believers.

In the 1930s a set of psi testing methods were developed at Duke University. These consisted of a repetitive procedure in which the subject attempted to determine a target symbol from a set of alternatives. The percentage of time the subject was correct determined the amount of psychic ability he or she had. However, these types of tests failed to capture the types of psi that have been reported in everyday life.

For example, psychic energy has often been linked to meditation, hypnosis, drug use and especially dreaming. These altered states of consciousness, whether self-induced or naturally-occurring, have been the conduit for psychic experiences by individuals who did not consider themselves psychics - or think they had any such ability.

Researchers in the last 40 years or so have attempted to verify these anecdotal observations. Several tests on meditation indicate that it does, indeed, facilitate psi. Hypnosis, which is almost identical to meditation in effect but just uses a facilitator to achieve the trance state, has also proven to enhance one’s psychic ability.

To study how psychic energy reveals itself in dreams, the Maimonides experiments chose a subject to sleep in a dream laboratory. When the experimenter determined the subject had entered REM sleep, he’d signal another participant, the “sender”, to begin. This “sender” would concentrate on a randomly selected picture, trying to “send” this image to the sleeping subject. When the subject was nearing the end of REM sleep, he was awakened and asked to tell everything he remembered about his dreams. This was repeated several times during the night.

Independent judges were asked to judge the similarity of the dreams as described and the pictures the sender had been looking at. They also judged the similarity of the dreams to a different, randomly selected picture. The judges didn’t know which picture was which. The similarity rating was closer with the real pictures than the control pictures.

These newer tests led the experimenters to think that psi is a weak signal that can be easily clouded by other information coming in through the normal five senses.

Further studies were designed in which the subjects’ five senses were blocked and the subject was relaxed using traditional techniques. The sender was separated and acoustically isolated as he attempted to send visual data, again chosen at random, to the subject. At the same time, the subject gave a constant verbal description of the thoughts going through is mind. This went on for approximately 30 minutes per session. The subject was then given four visual cues, one of which the sender had been trying to communicate and asked which of them was most like the imagery he had experienced. Again, this test indicated the presence of psi with statistically significant results.

One must take these tests with a grain of salt because of what is known as “selective reporting”. Failed experiments are reported far less than successful ones. So whether or not psychic energy really exists is still hotly debated.

How Psychic Are You?

To find out how psychic you are, try answering the following questions.

• Have you been attracted to the occult ever since you were a child?

• Do you often complete other people's sentences for them?

• Do you always buy the perfect birthday gift or Christmas present even though they haven't told you what they wanted?

• Have you ever thought about something that you wanted and then miraculously had it pop into your life the next day? This could be something very simple such as the desire for a certain kind of Chinese food or a pair of shoes.

• When you think about people do you shortly receive a phone call from them afterwards?

• Do you "talk" inside your head to a deceased relative, such an aunt or grandfather who you feel is like a guardian angel watching over you.

• Do you feel nausea and other symptoms of physical distress when you are near a cemetery or other places where people are deceased?

• Have you ever had a dream and had it come true?

• Have you ever sensed when someone has died?

• Can you tell the history of an object just by picking up?

• Do you cry a lot at a sad movie?

• Do you seem to attract the walking wounded (troubled people such as alcoholics or addicts), more so than most people in life?

• Have you ever won the lottery by guessing a couple of numbers dead on?

• Have you ever been in bed and felt as if your soul was leaving your body and that you were looking down at yourself from the ceiling?

• Have you ever had epilepsy, brain damage or manic depression?

• Were any of your ancestors psychics?

Assign yourself 1 point for each question to which you replied yes.

If your score is seven points or less than you are not unusually psychic. You were born with the natural radar possessed by most humans.

If your score is between eight and twelve points than you are definitely an intuitive and have an ability that can be cultivated into something more. Others are probably drawn to you because of your empathy.

If you scored between thirteen and sixteen points then you are unusually talented and should explore a career as a professional healer, medium or a psychic.

An explanation of the results:

• Most psychics develop an interest in the occult very early in life, often even before the age of twelve.

• Completing other people's sentences for them is a form of highly tuned intuition. Couples do this because they are very connected to each other.

• Being dead on by giving someone exactly what they want for Christmas is another example of intuition or you "tuning" into another person's thoughts.

• Having your little wishes come true at just the mere thought of them is a rudimentary form of manifestation. An ability to manifest dreams into matter or manifest coincidences is a sign that you are not only in tune with your psychic abilities but also with your higher self.

• If you think about someone and they call, that is a form of telepathy (sending a message from mind to mind) at work.

• Psychics are thought to be hosts for ancestral spirits. If you find yourself frequently talking to a deceased relative in your head it is possible that you are a medium - a person that can channel the spirits of the dead.

• They don't call it a "gut feeling" for nothing. People who are psychic often feel nauseous or a pain in the center of the forehead or at the top of the head if they are near a place where spirits hang out. Many psychics will also feel this if they are around toxic or negative people.

• If you have dreams that come true, then it can be said that you are blessed with the gift of prophecy.

• Psychics, mediums and other intuitive type often know inside when someone else has died. This is because they either feel the connection from that person intensify dramatically for a few hours or days, or they may even just feel a sense of loss or disconnection.

• The ability to tell the history of an object or sense who owned it is called clairsentience. This means you are able to pick up messages through your flesh. Many say they feel a buzz or itchy feeling in their palm when this is happening to them.

• If you cry a lot at a sad movie, or even just any sad story, this means that you have a wonderful ability to be empathetic with others. The danger of being able "to put yourself in someone else's place" and understand them, however, can be dangerous as often the feeling often feels like love. Women who find themselves in bad relationships often mistake their feelings of empathy for feelings of soul love.

• Psychic individuals tend to attract troubled individuals for a couple of reasons. One of them is that the people who are troubled intuitively are drawn to others with healing or empathic abilities. Very often the person that comes to you feeling this will say something like "You are the only person who understands me." Also there is a principle that light attracts dark. The shinier and more enlightened you are as a person, the more you tend to draw negative events that challenge your progress on your soul path.

• If you have won the lottery, you are either very lucky, or very psychic!

• Out of body experiences and nightmares where you are being lifted out of your body are very common amongst psychics. It indicates ability to astral travel and talk to other spirits.

• It's sad but true, but many psychics are people who have hit some kind of rock bottom with their emotions or nervous system. The sixth sense is often borne out of a necessity when the person lacks common sense or even the usual five senses due to an illness.

• If you come from a long line of diviners, readers or prophetic people than chances are that you are capable of developing the same abilities.

Telekinesis - A Psychic Power

The word ‘telekinesis’ is made up of two words, tele and kinesis. Tele stands for distance and kinesis means movement. So telekinesis means the ability to move or shape the things from a distance without using the physical contact and objects like hammer, twisters and tongs. Telekinesis involves the use of psychic powers.

By extension the telekinesis implies using the psychic powers and energies to bend and reshape the mental and spiritual propensities, attitudes or even the circumstances of the subjects in a positive direction so as to enable them to realize the true potential of their life and live creatively and happily.

It is like the great yogis, gurus and saints demonstrating the divine powers of compassion by curing the sick and healing the wounded. The basic objective is to prove the existence of higher powers that work and cure by using the psychics and gurus as mediums.

It is like any other art or science can be learned under the guidance of an expert psychic. It is not a sleight of hand that can be learned in a day or two.

The Polish psychic Stanislawa Tomczyk could levitate small objects. In 1910, Julien Ochorowicz observed the levitations at very close quarters in an experiment conducted by a group of scientists in the Physical Laboratory in Warsaw. They appeared to her as fine threads emanating from her palms and fingers even though they were observed carefully before the experiment. It was observed that when these threads were snapped with scissors, they reappeared.

The demonstrations of Nina Kulagina, a Russian psychic moving a wide range of non-magnetic objects including matches, crystal bowls, clocks etc were captured on films.

Uri Geller is the most popular psychic in the field telekinesis who demonstrated his powers in a British radio show in the year 1973. Just minutes later, phones calls deluged the radio office reporting that that knives, forks, spoons, keys and nails began to bend and twist automatically. Watches and clocks lying dead for years started ticking. Even Geller himself was surprised at this development.

Professor Gary Schwartz of the University of Arizona conducted a spoon bending party in April 2001 where around 60 students were able to bend spoons and forks with the power of their minds.

Psychic Feelings - What are They & Where Do They Come From?

Psychic feelings are those " gut feelings" that are felt from the energy of those around you - not emanating from yourself. This can sometimes be difficult to identify or experience because you are getting various emotions from various people - some or which may be overwhelming and upsetting. Some psychics often become ill due to the amount of pain and sadness they are sensing from others, hence one of the reasons you will often here good psychics referred to as " sensitive".

Because these feelings come on so strongly, many who experience this can at some point actually know or learn to know what others are thinking purely based on how they feel. They not only know a person's pain, but know where it comes from. It is the subconscious mind that holds the answer to the pain. So someone with psychic feelings either can train themselves to do or like the psychic ability itself can just do so automatically.

Psychic feelings are often felt in the stomach area - which after experiencing this ability for awhile it becomes easier to realize when you are sensing others feelings rather than your own because of where in your body you feel these emotions. This area in the abdomen is called the solar plexus. What the psychic feels can be mild like butterflies or stronger like a knot in the stomach. This area in the body is usually the point where psychic feelings are felt because it has numerous networks of the nervous system along with every major organ is linked to this area. This is also where all of the body's vital functions are processed such as blood pressure, respiration and metabolism. Some believe that this is also the location in the body where the physical and spiritual worlds join. In many eastern philosophies, the parts of the body that are identified as spiritual centers are referred to as * chakra's" with each point being an opening to the energies and aura's outside of the physical body. So, using the " gut feeling" metaphor, it would make sense that when a psychic feels someone else's emotion that the stomach area would be the place..:-)

Having psychic feelings can be difficult until you work with yourself on how to deal with the situation. You can, as others often do, use this ability to benefit yourself and others. So few of us are able to use our human ability of psychic powers and those who can should look into ways of helping others.

Psychic Detectives and Psychic Investigations

“Psychic detectives” are people who claim to have special psychic powers, in order to assist, and have claimed to assist certain police and law enforcement agencies in theinvestigation and solving of crimes. The credibility of such claims cannot be ascertained since there is not much evidence to support them. However, the numerous stories regarding psychic detectives and psychic crime investigations circulating in newspapers, books, magazines and on the internet, have not failed to intrigue, and evoke the interests of both skeptics and enthusiasts of the paranormal.

Methods used:

Most of these people are self-proclaimed psychic detectives whose “contribution” to crime investigation is almost always voluntary. Their alleged abilities include postcognition - the supernatural perception of the past, psychometry - the paranormal divination of information based on reading the 'aura' of a place or object, and telepathy. They may also employ tarot reading, voodoo, numerology, séance and dowsing in their “psychic” investigations.

Responses from Law Enforcement Agencies:

Though there have been incidents where some police departments sought the help of psychics when all else fails, many law enforcement agencies, such as the LAPD, discard them and insist that they would never rely on frivolous activities like psychic readings when conducting routine crime investigations. This skepticism also extends to Scotland Yard’s official statements regarding psychics. An unfortunate “psychic detective”, who possesses information crucial to a crime investigation, may even be considered a suspect.

Other Responses:

Many supporters of psychic abilities believe that psychics do help solve crimes in many ways, and since psychic crime investigations have been performed for more than a century, credits should be given to them for their effort and achievements. However, majority of the people think otherwise. They consider psychic detectives and investigation only to be a form of trivial entertainment which should be never taken seriously. Vague evidences, self-promotion, and media hype have also furthered this skeptic opinion.

Famous “Psychic Detectives” and Cases:

The first documented case of a crime allegedly solved by a psychic detective was in 1845, when one clairvoyant brought to trail a suspect who consequently confessed to the crime. There is no proof that the clairvoyant had really solved the crime with her psychic abilities but this is the first official record to be documented.

One of the most well-known “psychic detectives” in the United States is Sylvia Browne of Kansas City, who’s been guest to popular interview shows such as Larry King Live and the Montel Williams Show. Her many works include predictions such as the claim that Bill Bradley would win the 2000 U.S. presidential election with the Reform Party coming in second, the "hiding in caves" of Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein, September 11, 2001 attacks etc. She has written a number of books including “Life on the Other Side”, and is the founder of the Society of Novus Spiritus.

Outside of the United States, Chico Xavier (Brazil) is a famous “psychic detective” whose supposedly transcription of a statement from a murder victim, in 1979, leading to the release of an innocent man and arrest of the real murderer, sparked renewed interests in psychic investigations.

Figuring Out If A Psychic Is Good?

Unfortunately, there is no easier answer to this. As every person have their different needs when consulting a psychic. But there are some general rules of thumb to go by.

Compassionate and caring, does the psychic compassionate with your situations? Now this doesn’t mean when a psychic gives you an answer you don’t like, that the psychic is bad. Sometimes the best possible answer a psychic can give during a readings is a truthful straight forward answer. But it should always be done from the heart and in helping you to achieve happiness and joy.

Are they always telling you what you want to hear? Many times psychics are afraid to tell the truth. Thus some psychics will tell you what you want to hear, so you will not leave the psychic a bad rating or be upset. One way to tell this is happening is if a psychic always tells you the outcome you want to hear. Another way is to evaluate it and then watch what happens. If the outcome is contradictory of what you were told would happen and the outcome that was told was basically agreeing with wha tyou wanted then there could be cause for concern. Keep in mind psychics are never 100% accurate when giving a psychic reading. So, when looking for a psychic advisor it might take more than one psychic reading to figure out if this psychic advisor is for you. After all you are looking for a special psychic advisor that will help you in your time of need and that is always a unique and different experience for each one of you.

Are they honest and truth? Does the psychic advisor tell you the truth even though psychic advisor knows it will upset you or isn’t something you want to hear? This is a mark of a good psychic advisor. You want them to tell you the truth. After all you don’t want to pay some glorified psychic 3.99 or more a minute for a psychic reading to blow sunshine up your butt and be wrong.

Is the psychic advisor offering to cast spells or prayers on your behalf towards another human being? Often times you have psychics advisors that do dabble in this area. There is nothing wrong with it. However, be careful with this. Oftentimes the universe is made in a way that very few of us can literally affect the free will of another human being. While energy work can be done by a energy worker, be mindful of anyone who gaurantees you results if you pay some big amount.

Is the psychic advisor fishing for information or asking questions that lead you to telling the psychic advisor more about the situation before the psychic gives a detailed psychic impression? Good psychics will always ask your question and identifying information (such as birthday, where you live) inorder to hone in on the specific details that you are wanting to know about for the reading. However, many psychics will give a vague general reading and then try and fish out information from you about the situation. And based on the information that you give them they will tailor the response to give you want you want to hear instead of giving you what they see (if anything at all). Be wary of this type of psychic. While sometimes it is helpful for the psychic to know a little bit more if they are getting conflicting or disjointed information. They should be able to offer some details before trying to create a whole picture for you.

Now there are many other areas that people ask the psychic advisors to go. Some people just want purely psychic reading. Other people want psychic reading with spiritual guidance. The latter is what I want to talk about next.

When you are searching for someone to not only tell you the psychic impressions about the situation but also to help guide you so you can achieve a more happier, healthier, joyful life there are general rules of thumb.

Are they telling you what to do? If a spiritual advisor is telling you how to live your life, they are not empowering you. Rather the spiritual advisor is trying to fix your life which doesn’t do you ultimately any good. You want a psychic that will help you figure out what way you want to go and what type of life you want to live.

Empower, does the psychic help empower you in your situation? A good spiritual advisor will help you to stand within your own power and to be confident in your self and your decision. So as you navigate this experience you are doing so from the drivers seat making the decisions and not giving your power away to other people in the situation.

This important becuase you want to develop independences so eventually you can trust your own intuition and perception about the direction you should take.

Do they offer you different ways of looking at the situation? A good spiritual advisor will always be able to help you see it from all sides. This way you have all the necessary information mentally and emotionally about all parties concerned for you to make an informed well grounded decision.

Do they over identify with your situation? Does the spiritual advisor over identify with your situation and act as if they go through the same thing all the time. They do this by equating your situation with one of their own. Thus giving advice based off there experience instead of based of your experience? This is a fine line to walk for advisors as sometimes they might have some wisdom that they realized through a similar experience in life that they wish to share. But you need to make sure they share it in a way that is pertaining to your situation and empowering you and helping you to see things in a different way.

Psychic: Extended Senses (E.S.P.)

Extra Sensory Perception was well acknowledged in the past by the classical philosophers as Plato, who included them amongst the Gnostic powers beyond the regular importance of the 5 senses.

There have been times in classical history when these skills were revered and associated with the gods. But at times in later history to our shame, we remember that anyone who demonstrated sensory knowledge beyond the average range was likely to be burned at the stake by the ever zealous agents of the orthodox and most powerful religion of the time, Christianity.

Certainly there were periods in ancient history when the inherent skills of particular individuals were harnessed and they were trained as seers within the temples, as in ancient Egypt. The priests of this particular era were particularly well versed in matters of the spirit and those who were respected possessed exceptional wisdom, as we learn from records. The role of these psychics and visionaries was seen as a sacred duty. It was mostly young priestesses who were trained to serve the country in this way, just as most psychics today are female. In ancient Greece the Delphic Oracle was famous and her work aspired to help the people of her country.

In modern times our understanding of these faculties is limited. Psychic faculties are only just beginning to be seen for what they are; as specially extended senses. E.S.P has been a curiosity and somewhat of an embarrassment to people who value the material world and revere the observed material sciences as their gods.

Even the Church has had problems of various kinds, including explaining some of the exceptional powers displayed by individuals. One such perplexity being in cases of levitation. If a monk, nun or priest within the Church levitated whilst in intense state of prayer or meditation - and this did happen, although rarely, the presiding bishop was instructed to command the poor subject to ‘come down!’ It was judged that if their response was immediate, then they became subjects for possible sainthood. If they didn’t obey immediately they were branded to be ‘of the devil.’ And no one seems to know what occurred when the poor person didn’t know how to reverse the happening and remained stuck to the ceiling!

There has been and still remains considerable ignorance about the psychic and spiritual powers that manifest through people who are sometimes conscious instruments and sometimes completely unaware of what happens through their mediumship. However, in India and no doubt many other cultures, the individual ESP faculties generally known as Siddhis, are well recognized, each identified and prized as an exceptional talent to be used ideally for exceptional purposes in helping others.

Modern psychics who function as amateur explorers in areas that are sometimes of dubious nature and value are generally viewed rather sceptically by most of us. The casual visit to the ‘gypsy’ at the fair is usually seen as a lighthearted venture.

Dedicated professionals who have trained and wish to offer their skill and experience in service are a different matter. These include wonderful people who are employed, or who voluntarily offer, to assist people with personal issues and private consultation, or to aid in helping the community. Some have been successful in helping police investigation of missing persons as well as cases of criminal activity. Although not always publicly acknowledged, many people in public office or positions of responsibility also value the assistance of a psychic.

Some psychics better known to the public through some sensational issue are frequently those who have been accurate with prediction of various kinds. Each psychic usually has a faculty that is specially developed such as clairvoyance, clairaudience or talents as seer or visionary. Public fascination with the subject continues. So does the serious work of those psychics with integrity, who have come to terms with their unusual abilities and have found ways of utilizing them for the benefit of others.

What is required now is that we co-operate with psychologists who are attempting to understand the subtler realms and to extend their knowledge about the human psyche. This will assist us all by helping to establish the psychic abilities as natural extensions of our senses. It will also help to make us more confident in utilizing the human faculties, which we may already have become aware of within ourselves.

Psychic Ability

Psychics have the ability to foresee, feel and sense things that others can't. It is the use of ESP (extra sensory perception) or sixth sense, also known as Psi (mind and the unknown) for interpreting things in a paranormal way. Psychic ability is a part of parapsychology, or the study of the paranormal.

Everyone has psychic abilities though some people have more, or rather use more of them. Higher psychic ability is possible by using a greater part of the brain, which develops intuition and analytical skills. The psychic brain or rather, the mind is believed to have the capacity to look into the past or future, “talk” to a person who is miles away, hear things that others can't, predict future events or even heal themselves or others.

Automatic Writing, writing through the subconscious mind without conscious thought, or through guided writing from an unknown energy source is one psychic ability as is channeling, which is receiving information from an outside source. Clairaudience is the ability to hear or perceive sounds, which are not normally audible and clairsentience is being aware of an event, past, present or future through a feeling.

Clairvoyance-an extrasensory perception of an event that is not sensed by the normal five senses and divination, the predicting or telling of a prophecy is also a talent of the psychic detective. Hiero, the automatic writing, painting or drawing has also been observed.

A more common psychic ability is intuition, or the knowing, learning, acting or perceiving by intuition. Psychometrics is described as knowing about a person or an object by coming into contact with it and psycho kinesis is he art of moving objects with mental power. Remote Viewing is described as being able to see or describe a person, place or thing without being in their presence and finally, telepathy is the ability to talk to a person without physical contact.

A well developed intuition and reasoning capability is the first step to gaining psychic ability. Increasing concentration and learning to “tune” into the universal mind can sharpen psychic abilities. Great faith in one's mental power and in the presence of a higher power is very important for developing psychic abilities.

There are tests, which determine psychic abilities. These tests are also available online and can be sourced through the Internet. There are also many psychics who are willing to help you develop your psychic abilities.

Psychics and Foretelling: The Power of Our Minds - Fact or Apparition

An apparition is defined as: an appearance of something or somebody unexpected or strange.

A psychic is defined as: clairvoyant, telepathic, telekinetic, spiritualistic, having second sight, having a sixth sense.

The main idea in these practices is the "belief" factor. Throughout human history, we have all needed some type of belief system to help us cope. Be it our own inner reasoning, astrology, horoscopes, tarot or utilizing psychics or even fortune tellers.

So, are psychics an apparition or are they real? Are they strange? Do we see them as strange because they have been able to harness a bit part of what the human mind is capable of?

There are lots of arguments by both sides.

In all truthfulness, psychic ability could relate to just about any female of our species. They are endowed with an uncanny knack for knowing what will happen, and I don't mean the end result if you come home late at night without informing them that you would be out in the first place!

Humor aside, the innate "powers" the female is equipped with gives us an undeniable insight into the hidden powers of the mind. And into the secret abilities this electrical power plant has which we have yet to uncover. It is very arrogant to brush aside these abilities as mere "parlor games".

The "fly-by-night" self-professed psychics who rule the television airwaves late at night do nothing for the legitimacy of this ability to "see and foretell". Make no mistake...this ability is for real. Maybe the sheer number of people who have learned to employ this ability are females due to the fact that females are definitively more in touch with their "feelings". Unlike males, they do not run from these feelings, they seek to delve deeper into them, opening up a pandora's box of possibilities.

Quite possibly the one person who has done more recently to give psychics an air of believability is Allison DuBois, and more specifically the television show based on her life "Medium". We "look in" on her abilities every week, and if anyone who has had any kind of contact with someone who shares these "abilities" knows, the power is not far-fetched nor is it fabrication.

The mysteries of the mind are more numerous today than the mysteries of outer space. Why are we so willing to explore these outer reaches, and not our own inner ones? Fear of the unknown and possibly the fear of what we are all very capable of?

Yes, there are studies being done in the area of the mind's power to heal the body, but the problem is the outcomes of these studies are geared towards the scientific community. What is needed is a translation if you will, of the evidence geared towards the average person on the street.

This alone would do more to lend creedence to the possibilities of what we all may be capable of, then having the scientific community rest on their knowledge while the rest of us have to endure the false-foretellers that flood the airwaves.

The power of the mind cannot be harnessed, and we should not attempt to do this. What we do need to do is acknowledge the possibilities of these powers and learn to extract bits and pieces of it, and utilize them to our advantage, mainly in the medical and mental health fields.

Many science fiction writers have given glimpses of what they perceive to be the "powers of the mind" in their writings, be it the "seeing" of law-breaking before the event happens, or employing the mind to move objects (telekinesis) and other far-fetched notions.

Are these far-fetched ideas? In truth, probably only in the extreme, but we will never know until we put fear of the unknown aside, and join the millions of 'believers" in discovering and utilizing the powers we all have residing in ourselves.

The result does not have to be frightening science fiction, but beneficial science and human fact.

The Best Way To Predict The Future Is To Create It Yourself

During my twenties I discovered a metaphysical bookstore called The Omega Centre in Toronto, Canada. I was 17 and it was my own way of rebelling against the fuddy duddy religious home life of my childhood. For the next few years I consulted a few psychics and no longer see them. However, this does not mean that psychics aren't for real. They are. The challenge is that the best psychics are few and far between. Most of them out there are intuitive but empathic and will dazzle you. The test of a true psychic - they don't care whether you are a repeat client or not, whether you are happy with what they say, and have an intention to guide you rather then tell you what to do. Most of all... a genuine psychic is humble and operates from a strong spiritual base guiding their ethics.

To this day there are only six psychics in the world whom I would recommend based on my own criteria. Why? If I refer anyone to these people I can sleep at night. A genuine psychic is often accurate over a long period of time. They do not collude with the client and actually keep their empathy in check so as to not merge with your version of events. Look also at the person's home life and overall demeanor: would this be a person whom you would spend regular time with? Are they grounded? The genuine psychic actually looks normal and wouldn't stand out in a crowd in that woo-woo way.

Before checking out a psychic ask yourself why. Many times people see a psychic when they should consult a certified cognitive behavior therapist. Psychic data is symbolic and it is the interpretation that often causes readings to seem not to come true. No psychic is 100% accurate because of subjective interpretations that bring in their own world views. There is no such thing as fate. Life is choice not chance. A genuine psychic will guide you towards the highest reality they can tune into at the time. You are still in the driver's seat of your life. Like the pilot in the plane and the air traffic controller who sees from a higher vision, removed from the situation, the pilot is still holding the wheels. If an unforeseen rainstorm happens it is the pilot's responsibility to adjust accordingly. A genuine psychic will never try to take over your life by offering miracle results, just the best intentions. Most of all... a genuine psychic will never allow a dynamic to occur whereby they become a guru and the client surrenders personal power.

For the record, if you really feel you need a psychic reading here are the few people you may want to consider:

For the record too ... I've experienced their work personally and attest to their ethics. There is also a wonderful writer and intuitive in Boston named Lynn Robinson (www.lynnrobinson.com) who I haven’t personally consulted but has had rave reviews over the years.

For those who are keen on medical intuition there is Dr. Judith Orloff and Dr. Mona Lisa Schultz who are both board-certified MDs.

Remember - the genuine article is few and far between. Your own gut instincts are often the best and only guidance you need.

Now, at 30, my best opinion is... let God lead the way and surrender to prayer and a divine will. If you are in San Francisco there is a lovely Byzantine Church in Russian Hill. In Toronto there is Taizé Prayer at the Newman Centre affiliated with the University of Toronto.

Famous Psychics - Jean Dixon

Probably the most famous psychic of our time was the ever popular Jean Dixon. On January 25, 1997, she passed away, but not before leaving a legacy that won't soon be forgotten.

Her most famous prediction, and probably the one that got psychics in general the most attention, was when she predicted that President John F. Kennedy would die in office. As it turned out, Kennedy was assassinated while in Dallas Texas.

Her actual prediction was that a democratic president elected in 1960, a tall young man with blue eyes and brown hair, would die in office. According to Dixon when interviewed she said that she told reporters that the president would be assassinated but they refused to print that part.

While she was alive, Dixon was an advisor to many famous celebreties including Ronald and Nancy Reagan. As a matter of fact, Nancy Reagan was constantly hounded by the press for her reliance on astrologers and psychics to set the president's schedule. Jean Dixon was one of the people she relied on the most until one day she decided that Dixon had lost her powers and decided instead to align herself with Dixon's rival, Joan Quigley.

Dixon was also the author of seven books. She wrote her autobiography as well as horoscopes for dogs, astrological cookbooks and several books on psychic phenomena. Dixon was one of the leading believers in ESP and was a well known influential Washington socialite.

After Kennedy was killed in 1963 the notoriety that hit Dixon because of it drove political columnist Ruth Montgomery to write a book called "A Gift Of Prophecy: the Phenomenal Jean Dixon." This book told of hundreds of accurate predictions Dixon made throughout the years. The book was published in 1965 and sold more than three million copies. The publishing of this book turned Dixon into an overnight celebrity and made her much in demand to do lectures, and eventually prompted her to start her own syndicated horoscope column, which was printed in newspapers all over the world.

For some reason though Jean Dixon was the psychic that everybody loved to hate. Year after year were reports by countless people that Dixon's predictions were bogus and that she had never made one that actually came true, including the one about Kennedy's death. The woman was under constant attack in tabloids all over the country. A respected Mathematician by the name of John Allen Paulos coined what was known as the "Jean Dixon Effect" where people come up with a few accurate predictions but conveniently overlook the hundreds of false predictions that never come true.

The truth is, not all of Jean Dixon's predictions came true. She predicted that World War III would start in 1958 over some offshore Chinese Islands and that labor leader Walter Reuther would run for president in 1964 and that the Russians would land the first man on the moon.

Jean Dixon may not have always been accurate with her predictions but she will always remain one of the most colorful and well know psychics in history.

Psychic Email Readings - Should I Get One or Not?

With the vast array of psychic reading opportunities now available, a whole new "breed" of reading has opened up in cyberspace - the psychic email reading! Let's take a closer look at what is involved and decide whether this is a good choice for you or not. Typically, the psychic will advertise on popular bulletin board services, social networking sites, or even mainstream sites like eBay. Craigslist has also become a popular place for email readings to be advertised. Now, at the risk of upsetting some people, I will tell you my honest opinion is to AVOID an email reading and opt for a more personalized consultation instead

Why? Well, for one, there are an abundance of good psychics who are available for one on one, personal interaction with you either by phone or in person. I also don't believe that there is enough "energy" (for lack of a better word )that can be exchanged through an email correspondence. To me, it feels impersonal, emotionless and absent the connection that I feel is important when attempting to really feel another person's spiritual essence or aura.

Now I know there are many well known psychics who do email readings, and I'm sure many of these are very good. The other problem I typically have with an email reading, is for it to be worthwhile, they are going to need to ask you for a lot of information by email, right? I mean, your email address has no psychic imprint, does it? So the information that you will provide to help the psychic procure the reading can actually be grounds for the client, after the fact, to question the veracity of the facts shared, even if they were very good. People are ALWAYS inherently skeptical of the reading, even if it's very good and accurate, invariably over time a good and smart client will attempt to reconstruct how the psychic was able to glean such good info! And if you are supplying identifiable information prior to the reading ( and I have yet to see an email reader worth his or her salt who didn't ask for SOME personal data up front ) my belief is you are just stoking the fire of skepticism, regardless of how talented you may be. For this reason, I usually recommend both consumers, and readers both at least get together on the telephone, ( or at the very minimum use Internet Messaging programs if there are no other choices rather than just email ) so that each party can get a comfort level, and feel for the other.

When the internet became a convenient vehicle for getting new clients, and providing value to people far away, there were many who were skeptical it would truly work for good psychics of character and high regard. That hurdle has been overcome, I do believe we can all agree! But a pure email reading, regardless of my own personal bias against it, I don't ever believe will be a viable solution for a service that is, in my opinion, so largely dependent on a live connection between two very real people. Nor would I want it to be!

5 Questions To Ask When Looking For A Real Psychic

Be sure to ask the following five questions, they may help you make finding a real psychic easier!

Are you thinking of finding a real psychic? If you are, then these 5 questions can help you find a real psychic who has your best interest at heart. Psychics as with other professions have various specialities, and the homework you do now will help you find the right psychic for you later. Don't forget that it's important to address each question openly and honestly, or else you may be cheating yourself from finding the best psychic for your needs.

Question 1 - Why are you looking for a psychic? Something has triggered a need in you to look for a psychic, what is it? Why do you feel a psychic is necessary, versus perhaps another type of expert? It is essential that you clearly define your need, because without a clear understanding of why you are looking, it will be difficult for you to determine who to see and how they might help you.

Question 2 - What type of psychic are you seeking? Although it might seem like the same question, ask yourself what outcome you want by seeing a psychic. Remember that psychics have specialties, and the outcome you want will greatly be impacted by the type of psychic you see. Are you looking for romance or love advice? Are you trying to communicate with someone who has passed on? Are you hoping to determine if it's a good time to start a business or endeavor? Each one of the above needs can best be served by getting help from a psychic who has developed special skills. Psychics can unlock the secrets of your love life, Mediums specialize in reaching out to those who have passed on, and Astrologers can help identify better times for starting a new business or other endeavor. By determining what type of psychic you want to see you can better focus your efforts on finding the best psychic for you.

Question 3 - Do you want one time only or on-going psychic advice? Is your need for a psychic a one-time only need, or are you interested in long term assistance? Depending on your time-scale, you may need the services of a psychic who you have faith will be able to advise you long-term. This means carefully considering the psychic's history. Has he or she been in the business a long time? Have they been at their location for several years? Are they reachable via in-person consultations or only via the phone or web? Depending on your time and in-person or remote needs, you may have to consider local psychics versus those who are some distance from you.

Question 4 - Does the psychic have references? As with anyone you seek advice from, be sure to check for references from your potential psychic. If the psychic is legitimate he or she will be able to provide you with a list of references of past and current customers for you to contact. If the psychic does not offer a list or has no references, reconsider you choice of that psychic, and try another. If the psychic does offer you a list of references, consider who the references are. Are they past and current customers? Are they from all walks of life and occupations? Are they relatives of the psychic? It's important to consider exactly who the references are, if you find a reference that shares your needs and has been given the types of advice you are looking for then this may be a positive indication.

Question 5 - Did you call all the references? Prepare in advance a few questions that address your needs for a psychic, and ask each reference your questions. Be sure to write down the answers, because you may forget or otherwise become confused with all the information you receive after calling the references. And don't skimp and only call one or two references. Call them all and ask each one your questions. After calling them compare your notes, you may find issues or questions that you need to follow-up on with your potential psychic.

By carefully thinking about and answering each of the 5 questions, you'll be in much better position to choose a psychic.

Psychics and Automatic Writing

Psychics use various methodologies to bring out their psychic energy and describe it to others. One of these is called automatic writing. If you have psychic abilities, or are in the process of developing them, automatic writing is another way to get guidance from the higher planes.

Automatic writing requires you to completely surrender your ego to your spiritual guides. In effect, you are lending them your hand to write. To achieve this, you need to be relaxed or in a trancelike state. It often happens easiest the first thing in the morning, before the stress of the day makes it’s way into your subconscious. Sit comfortably at a desk or writing table and use your own form of meditation to achieve this.

When you feel very relaxed, pick up a pen and place it gently to paper as if you intend to write. Many find it helpful to keep their eyes gently closed. Now imagine your higher self traveling down your arm and taking over your hand. Allow it to happen. Visualize your higher self taking over your hand and writing its message for you. Assure your hand doesn’t lock by allowing it to scribble gently but without direction. Let the pen flow as it wants to. All the while, imagine your higher self is doing the writing.

The objective here is to let your subconscious take over your hand and write to you from the unconscious plane. When it happens you will feel your handwriting without your conscious direction.

This technique can be very exciting and insightful, but it takes a patient and receptive person to develop it. If you think you are that type, practice this for 25 to 30 minutes 3 times a week. The more you practice, the more likely you are to succeed.

It can’t be stressed enough how important patience is to success in automatic writing. Some of our foremost psychics practiced for years before feeling any significant tug at their hands. Then it takes even more patient practice to get good at it; to get more than just stray words, phrases or names written.

Some psychics have a natural talent for automatic writing and the words flow from them the instant they attempt it…sometimes, when they aren’t even trying! Messages and even long letters come through during automatic writing.

Automatic writing is not the same as inspirational writing, but it is related. In the latter, you attempt to guide the conversation with your higher self by asking it a specific question. You start the session by consciously writing down the question or need for counsel.

Then, after a short meditation for relaxation, imagine that your higher self is writing out the answer. It may feel awkward at first, but keep writing. Soon the answers flow and the more you write, the more inspired you become. The solutions will just flow through your mind, down your arm, out of your pen and onto the paper.

Give automatic or inspirational writing a try. Great inspiration often comes through with these methods. Who knows what will inspire you?

Free Psychic Reading: Fast Facts

So you want a psychic reading, preferably free to start. Ads on television and the Internet offer free psychic readings, but how long do these free readings last and can you trust them? While knowing all the answers is usually not possible, at least try to educate yourself in the basics of what a free psychic reading is, what it can offer and how much it can cost in the long run.

The keyword here is 'free'. Are just a few minutes free? What's the catch? Who are these people who offer a free psychic reading, anyway? Can they be trusted? Again, research before you log on or dial that number. Has the psychic you've chosen appeared on any television or radio shows, written articles or otherwise appeared in the public spotlight? Have they helped law enforcement agencies search for missing people? Each of these questions is valid when it comes to searching for the right psychic, whether for a free psychic reading or not.

Generally, reputable psychics and mediums don't offer a free reading, but on the other hand, everyone has to start somewhere. Building a reputation for these successful psychics involves trust and results. Many online and television ads advertise for a free psychic reading, but beware of who they are and what they're offering. In many cases, when a free reading is offered, it's used as a hook to get you back. At other times, a free psychic reading offered from a telephone number or website might only offer a few minutes free, and then the charges will start to kick in. Make sure you do your research ahead of time and follow the advice of the old adage: Let the buyer beware.

A free psychic reading might be fine for people just wanting to experiment, but if you're serious, seek out serious psychics and then do your research, visiting only those who have a good, solid reputation behind them. Check with online forums that discuss psychic readings and look for names or websites that forum members say scammed them. Try a name search within several different search engines and see what kind of information pops up on the psychic you're interested in. If you don't have a specific name for an offer to a free psychic reading, then you have a choice of trying it out, but don't fall prey to the old ploys to get you to come back if you're not perfectly satisfied with the service you received.

Most free psychic reading offers don't last for more than a few minutes, very few for more than five, so don't expect a whole lot. If you don't know whom you want, avoid the word 'free' in any Internet search, unless you really don't care who gives you your first free psychic reading. If you are serious about pursuing a psychic reading, then type in words like 'authentic, licensed, accurate', among others. Just be advised, that with anything, you get what you pay for. That goes for a free psychic reading as well.

How to Choose a Psychic

So, you've decided that you want to check out this "psychic reading" thing. Or maybe, you have been to a psychic before and would like to try it again.

How do you pick one? No one likes to get scammed. You are paying your hard earned money to get some insights, you don't need someone to tell you that your stars are not aligned, or that you are looking for something or trying to figure out your life. Aren't we all?

If you weren't looking for something or trying to get insight or a different view into something, you wouldn't be looking for a psychic in the first place.

One of the first things you need to do is to take a look at a couple of websites. Don't be fooled by good marketing - some true psychics have expensive sites, some are maintained by the psychic themselves. What the psychic has to say makes a difference. Psychics are as varied as the rest of the population, each having their own special talents and their own way of communicating. Some psychics were born psychic, some became aware of their gift after a life altering event, and some have worked hard for a very long time to hone their ability to connect with Spirit.

Some use tools like tarot cards, runes or tea leaves. Others simply sit quietly and channel information from Spirit. How they do the reading does not matter, that you get something out of it does.

Any psychic that is any good is doing a reading for you because they truly want to help you with your path. Most genuine psychics are not getting rich from doing psychic readings. Some do better financially than others, but often it has more to do with their other endeavors, not just the readings themselves.

Everyone has their own intuition and gut feelings about things. It is important when choosing a psychic that you use yours. If you happen along a website and just feel a connection with someone then that person is definitely worth looking in to.

There are many good psychics out there, why not talk to one where you feel a connection?

Another thing to look at are testimonials. Yes, I suppose testimonials could be made up, but why would a good psychic do that? There would be no need. Testimonials, along with all the other things mentioned in this article can be a good indication of what you might get out of your reading.

Look for signals throughout their website. Words and phrases like 'empower', 'non-judgmental', 'help you make your own informed decisions' (rather than 'I will tell you what to do'), help you work through your journey (or path), are all signs of a true psychic. One who wants to help you, not help themselves to your money. If on their site they claim to be able to make other people behave in a certain way you would probably be better off to move on to someone else. Just as you have free will, so do your loved ones.

When looking for a psychic, be realistic, there are scam artists out there too (just as there are bad contractors, lawyers, mechanics and accountants, there are bad psychics). If, on your quest to find a good psychic, you come across any of the following, please move on and find someone else to be your guide.

  • Anyone that tells you that they can solve all your problems is flat out lying. They are praying on people who are desperate and have a problem (or problems) that feel too overwhelming to deal with on their own. No one can solve all your problems for you.
  • Anyone who adds charges over and above what you have agreed in advance to pay. I am not talking here about someone who has told you ahead of time that there is a charge to have a CD mailed to you, nor am I talking about someone who says there will be an additional charge for additional time or services. I am referring to a so called "psychic" who says "I just prayed for you, you owe me money".
  • Anyone who mentions curses, or anything else out of your control. There are no such thing as curses. There are people out there who would like you to believe there are curses that can be removed for huge amounts of money, but it is just the money that they will be focusing on -- how they can get it from you. Once they get some out of you, they feel they have you hooked and they will continue to tell you you are cursed and they will continue to take your money as long as you give it.
  • Ditto with lighting candles or praying for you. Its fine if a psychic says they are willing to do this for you -- so long as they do not charge you for it.
  • If they tell you that you need readings on a regular basis in order to achieve your goals. Now, if you make the decision that you need more guidance that is fine. But a psychic should not tell you that you must ask them before you make your own decisions. You need to live your own life. Asking for help is okay, but a good psychic does not want their clients to become dependent on them for every decision that comes along.
  • Watch out for psychics who tell you that they "know", beyond all doubt, what your future holds. You do have some control over your own future. Our futures are based on our actions. If a psychic sees something in your future, positive or negative, you have control over whether or not you allow it to happen.
  • The biggest thing to keep in mind when looking for and then consulting a psychic is that you still need to live your own life and make your own decisions. Psychics are "guides", they are not your decision makers.

If you have a decision to make, yes, a psychic can tell you what the possible outcome of the decision may be. They cannot tell you what decision you will make -- that's up to you.

True psychics want to help you on your path, want to make your life easier, give you some insights, help you feel better about whatever it is you are going through. Sometimes to give a bit more meaning to what it is you are experiencing. Psychics generally do not want to scare you. They aren't going to tell you that you will be cursed forever if you don't do what they say. That's not why God gave them the gift.

If you remember nothing else, remember this: A good psychic does not want to control you or your life, they want to help you to have control over your own life, and to realize your own potential.

    Psychics Exposed to Violent Crime

Private moments of extreme grief, horror, and rage are common emotional responses that psychics experience who work in the investigative fields of criminology. Many psychics consider their understanding of the life and death process as a means to cope with horrific details of torture and death. The older seasoned psychic who has a long history of working with law enforcement may appear to be less vulnerable to the emotional and sensory aspects of crime than their younger counterparts, yet they are not immune.

Eventually the coping mechanism that the psychic has created to shrug off the vivid scenes of horror, bizarreness and magnitude of death experiences ware down, leaving an indelible impression upon the psyche. Emphasis and importance is placed upon the insights and accuracy of the psychic rather than then the psychic as an emotional human being. Public opinion subscribe to the idea that psychic people are not affected by emotional trauma.

Psychic people who are exposed to violent crime are at risk of suffering from mental health problems in the days, months, and even years following their assignments. Unfortunately, widespread effects will continue to be unreported for the following reason. The science community has yet to measure the e.s.p. function. Until it is successfully measured, we have no proof of its existence. Without scientific support, the psychological, social, and health effects of psychics working in criminal investigation will not be assessed nor even addressed.

If you are a psychic professional working in the field of criminal investigation for law enforcement for federal or the private sector, it is important to recognize when to get out of that never ending procession line of, “we need your help”. Know when it is time to help you. Some of the symptoms you may experience include (1) recurrent flashbacks of previous psychic assignments; (2) anxiety, panic; (3) anger and rage; (4) insomnia; (5) callused, and closed down behavior.

Restructuring the foundation of your work may not be an easy task but it can be done. There are processes that you may wish to explore to release the imprints of your experiences. Alternative medicine may help for immediate relief of symptoms but it is more likely that you need to develop new ways to respond to your situation and create options for the changes you want to make in your life.

Knowledge and awareness are the signs that can lead you to the right resources. You need not follow the path of your predecessors and live your life in service of your ability. You have the choice to live your life with your ability in service for you. Use it to heal yourself, create the ideal lifestyle, or create abundance.

The strength of your psychic function will influence all your choices. Knowing who you really are and what your life is really about will enhance your choices. Fulfillment, success, and joy are yours to accomplish in this life. Do it for yourself, you wont be sorry!

How to Tell if Your Psychic Reading Is Genuine

A psychic reading can change your life - but not necessarily in positive ways. The key to protecting yourself from inaccurate readings is to listen to the reading - not with your head; not with your emotions. Listen with your gut.

How to Listen With Your Gut

Have you ever noticed that when something feels off during your day, you get a tightening in the area just below your stomach? It's a common physiological response to danger. And it's not to be ignored.

When you get a Tarot card reading, a palm reading, or any kind of metaphysical advice, you will notice that tightening in your gut if the advice is wrong or harmful. Many people feel that gut tightening and ignore it, giving their personal power over to the Tarot or the psychic. Instead, be aware of that feeling. It means the psychic reading is not genuine.

In all fairness, a talented psychic can only be accurate part of the time. Even the most gifted and spiritual readers make mistakes. If they didn't, they wouldn't be human. So if you sense that your reading is inaccurate, it just means to let it go; leave the psychic's table; try again another time.

How to Spot a Psychic Scam

On the other hand, there are scam psychics out there. How can you tell if your new psychic is for real? Here are some scam techniques to watch for:

    • The psychic spends a great deal of time on un-provable details. He or she may open the reading with names of your personal animal spirits or guardian angels, which is fine if it's brief - but a red flag if it goes on and on.
    • The psychic talks about you, your traits, or your future in ways that just don't make sense. If you're an introverted, married with children, computer programmer, watch out if the psychic tells you to pack for a trip to Paris next week. Use your common sense.
    • The psychic describes the future in generalized or obvious terms. A psychic telling a young single woman that she's about to meet a guy - well, that's probably true, but the young woman could get that same information from her best girlfriend.
    • The psychic says things about your current life that are simply wrong. By itself, it doesn't mean he or she is scamming you. The psychic could be having a bad day herself - perhaps she's not feeling well, or maybe she came to the reading from an argument with her husband and was unable to clear that energy away. In any case, if she or he is outright inaccurate, you should take the rest of the reading with a grain of salt.
    • Be aware, too, of psychics who charge a major fortune. Yes, many of the famous psychics charge a shocking amount, but that's a supply and demand issue. Your local personal psychic needs to earn a decent living, but he or she doesn't need to over charge.

    Computer Generated Readings

If you're getting a computer generated reading, you don't have to worry about the interference of the human element. Still, if the reading seems foreign to you - if, for instance you get a reading that indicates marriage in the near future and you're agoraphobic, simply trash that reading and start again. Most free computer readings let you start over with the push of a button. At Psychic Tea Shoppe, for instance, you can simply click your mouse over the Get Another Reading button, and you're good to go.

What to Do If You Don't Like Your Reading

Never be afraid to stop a reading before it's over, and politely leave. If it's a face-to-face, you still need to pay the agreed-upon amount. And you still need to behave graciously. But you do need to get up and go, if that's what your gut is telling you.

For more details on making your psychic reading a great experience, check out the article How to Get Your Best Online Psychic Reading.

Stick With Positive, Helpful Psychic Readers

On a positive note, if you find your psychic through a friend, or word-of-mouth in your community, she or he is probably going to be excellent. The scammers give genuine psychics a bad image, but there are lots of sincere, gifted readers out there; psychics who can make a beneficial difference in your life. Find these genuine psychics, and stick with them. Once you've been to her a few times, then you can believe it if she says you're going to Paris - because she's proven herself accurate in your past readings.

    Psychic Medium

Psychics are people who have mastered the art of using mental powers like ESP (extra sensory perception) to look into the lives and future of other people and predict future events. The word “Psychic” has Greek roots, derived from the word psychiokos or psyche, which means soul or “that which is mental”. The word is generally used to describe fortunetellers.

Many people have psychic abilities, or the abilities to look beyond the things that are seen or heard or sensed by normal human beings. People believe that this is possible by connecting with a higher power like spirits or souls of dead people. A psychic medium is one who tunes to this higher source for information and uses his or her intellect and intuition to analyze a particular situation or a problem. Psychic mediums act as an intermediary between a person in the real world and the soul of a person who has died.

Psychic mediums can connect with spirit guides, guardian angels, dead relatives of the client, and other supernatural beings. A good psychic medium should be able to interpret the sayings of all these beings and perform perfect analysis. Psychic mediums master the art of clairaudience, which is the ability to hear or perceive sounds, which are not normally audible. They are able to first sense the presence of a non-physical entity through spiritual communication, then convey this energy into the physical realm. This process is called mediumship.

There are thousands of psychic mediums in the world, some more active than others. Several are willing to offer their services for a fees ranges from $1 per minute to $10-$15 per minute. Psychic mediums can be contacted by mail, phone or through e-mail. There are also several websites that offer free psychic consultation online. However, these free services are limited. Psychic mediums are slowly finding acceptance by many people and there is a demand for popular psychics, despite the skepticism of some critics.

    Famous Psychics - Sylvia Browne

In this last of a series of articles on famous psychics we're going to cover another very popular modern day psychic who has had more than her share of sceptics and bashers. Sylvia Browne is probably one of the most controversial psychics of the modern era.

Sylvia Browne is most noted for her psychic talent, her great counseling ability and the extensive research she has done into parapsychology. She has a very down to earth, sometimes abrasive, but very dynamic and genuine personality. Yes, she does have a tendency to rub people the wrong way. But what controversial psychic hasn't?

Browne has lectured and taught people all over the world including Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and Canada. Supposedly Browne first achieved her psychic ability at the very young age of three years old when she was living in Kansas City, MO. In her early years she shared her psychic gifts with friends and family. She eventually became very well known for helping people see into the future. She moved to California in 1964. From her new home she continued to assist people in private. Eventually, Browne wanted to form a professional organization to study the paranormal. This finally came to pass in 1974 when she formed The Nirvana Foundation for Psychic Research, which is a nonprofit organization. It is now known as The Society of Novus Spiritus. Since that time Browne has helped thousands of people find a deeper spiritual meaning in their life through God via her gifts.

Browne's philosophy involves researching into people's past lives through hypnosis. She also obtains much information through what is known as her channeling ability. She has established reincarnation as the key to understanding life. She accepts this as the central theme in her philosophy. However, she does not force this belief on anyone who does not accept it. To all her subjects she says, "Take with you what you want and leave the rest behind." Browne is also very religious but does not force that issue either. If one chooses not to believe in a supreme being she believes that is their right. She tells people, "It does not matter if you believe in God because God believes in you."

Browne, over the years, has appeared on shows such as Unsolved Mysteries, In Search Of..., That's Incredible and the Montel Williams Show. She has also been featured in magazines like Cosmopolitan and People. She even had her own TV special called Haunted Lives and was a guest on the Larry King Show. She was heard on Coast to Coast by thousands and even had two Pay Per View specials in 1999 and 2000.

Browne has also had several books published including, "Journey Of The Soul," "Conversations With The Other Side," "Astrology Through The Eyes Of The Psychic," and her Biography, "Adventures Of A Psychic" which was a New York Times best seller.

Browne has come under attack by many sceptics as have many other psychics before her. Some of the attacks have been so vicious that they have prompted her to post some rather strong responses to them on her official web site.

And again, as with all psychics who have come before her, the question still remains unanswered. Is she the real thing or just another very good entertainer?

Psychic Reading - Is it a Scam?

Everyday in your life you come across fraudsters who would grab your hard earned money. You must protect yourself against such con artists who assure you with a true psychic reading and in return give you no real information in the end.

    - The best method is to listen to your intuition, or the inner 'gut' feeling. If you go for a psychic reading and you don't feel right, leave immediately.

    - Let everyone in the Universe know that you are after the truth; this in itself will help you to reach a well known psychic reader.

    - During a psychic reading, never reveal any personal details; con artists may use it to gather information about you and flesh out a reading.

While listening to your psychic reading you may get a strange, sinking feeling in your stomach hinting that something is wrong with the reading. This is a signal that the reading isn't authentic and you are merely wasting your time.

A few online or phone psychic reading firms will offer you the initial few minutes of your reading free. This will give you adequate time to distinguish if the reading is correct or not. Even a real psychic may get some points incorrect and you will never come across anyone who is 100% accurate in all the readings. They are after all humans, and not perfect receptors. If you find the reading is inaccurate you need to conclude it and try it some other time.

Some of the tips to spot the scams that are used by con artists:

    1. A good amount of time in the psychic reading will be wasted by the psychic reader talking about unimportant things that cannot be proved. Like, s/he may talk about your guardian angels. If this is short then do not worry, but if s/he goes on and on about this topic then there is something fishy.
    2. The Psychic may tell you about yourself, your future, or your life but if it doesn't sound correct or does not make sense to you, then make use of your common sense while listening to the suggestions of the psychic reader.
    3. The Psychic reader may describe your future in the most common terms. Like, you are a bachelor s/he may tell you that you will soon bump into a nice girl, but s/he will not tell you how she looks but only give you a hazy description about her. In such case you are probably not facing of a real Psychic.
    4. In a case where the Psychic makes predictions about your life and most of it is wrong. Then do not listen any further. In such a situation do not act on his advice.
    5. Real Psychics do not work for money; many of them even do not charge a fee, instead they may ask for donations. Most of the famous Psychics ask a huge fee, but then they are sought after that much more than a small town Psychic. The huge fees being charged by such Psychics is not justified.

    The Truth About Psychic Hotlines!

Where could I look to find the first subject of my experiment but on the Internet. There seemed to be a lack (or shall I say none) psychic reading hotlines in my local newspaper. However there was plenty to choose from on the Internet. A search for ‘Psychic Reading Hotlines’ produced many results in Google, but I came to the realisation that being in the UK it was best to try the psychics in England.

Some interesting results were returned from the psychic reading hotlines. Although most web sites listed were for psychic readings, some websites were spoofs and just a few about skeptical people submitting their personal views for all to see. I read a few of the skeptic comments and about their supposed experiences with psychics and found most of them to be a rant about the legitimacy of psychics.

So let’s try for myself. I rang the first line I could find. I was greeted by a smooth female voice, its funny; the majority of psychics on the hotlines were female. Are they more in-tune with their psychic sense? As I expected I had to shuffle through a few questions and a disclaimer about the cost of the call. The lady proceeded to ask me a few personal questions, although I didn’t like the idea of giving out personal info, I realised that it was necessary in order to get a personalised reading, just like how your horoscope is based on your date of birth.

I’m not sure if this lady was trying to predict my future or telling me what was going on in my life. She seemed to be somewhat accurate although I was crossing my mind if most of what she said could be circumstantial?

"I see you have had a hard time” she said! She went on to tell me that things will be getting better but I should watch out for my health”! Could this not apply to everyone? OK! Fair enough, lets test the next psychic hotline.

I rang another ‘psychic line’, this one promised a free reading. I called to be greeted by an automates system that put me through to a male psychic. He had a much more dominating approach, I don’t know if he was just like that or having a bad psychic day. As the psychic reading continued he continued to ask me the same questions as the last psychic. While going through this process I was left wondering if I was getting a free psychic reading or not as I had called a premium rate hotline. When I questioned the psychic about this he claimed that I was getting a free reading and that I was paying a lower cost per minute that the other hotlines, and the low fee was just to cover admin costs. Hmmmmm! I hung up!

I proceeded to call a few more psychic hotlines and actually had some good experiences although I was paying more. I didn’t use any credit card services as I was unsure about giving my credit details out in the first place. Many of the psychics seemed to know what was going on in my life. Many psychics offered suggestions on how to deal with my situation and what I should look out for. At this point I am wondering how much I am like the rest of the population and if there is a good CHANCE…. That a psychic can guess my current demeanour (having called them in the first place).

So here is the final test, I will call a psychic and be a bit more specific about what I am looking for.

I called the psychics at the Psychic Reading Hotline. The website looked a bit different that the other websites I had visited. It seemed more business like but was selling much less services that the other websites and focused on Psychic Reading Hotlines more than anything else. There were also some great articles about psychics that made some interesting reading. Some of the articles got me thinking about what I was expecting from the psychics and what they really do. Taking this new information on board, I gave the hotline a call,

The psychic answered immediately, gave the usual disclaimer and proceeded to ask me questions about myself. This time I was little more coy about the information I gave about myself but was more direct about a particular subject in my life, e.g. business.

The psychic knew exactly how I felt and had a good grasp of the problems, yet most importantly the successes I have experienced. Now this is a strange one! I had recently got some business advice from a professional who advised me on what steps I should take. Now the psychic mentioned a few things that matched what the business advisor had told me to do. I asked the psychic if he had any business experience to which he laughed and replied "I just help people!" (indecently, I paid the businessman more for the same advice).

I was intrigued, lets put a twist in this. I gave the psychic a little white lie about making a decision that I had not really. The psychic saw straight through the lie. NOTE: when you give your initial info to the psychic, give the right info, its well worth it!

OK, I was hooked!, I had to shake things off before I totally bowed to the prowess of the psychic on the hotline. I wanted to meet this person! More info, more info. I had to slap myself on the face and pay attention with my original goal in mind. I continued my reading which eventually became a discussion as I was asking all the questions. I was impressed!

I probed the psychic for help & information about my girlfriend who I want to marry. Now here’s me thinking I am a unique person so feel that nobody can guess anything about me. Yet the psychic was bang on right when he described my reservations about getting married, but more importantly talked about how to deal with it.

BANG! THAT’S IT! It dawned on me what psychics are about and just how useful psychic hotlines really are.

LOOK AT IT THIS WAY! If you want somebody to tell you the future, then maybe GOD is still the best person to try and get an answer from. If you want to understand your life, look at it from another perspective, get advice, and learn what could happen if you don’t take action, then a Psychic is for you!.

A psychic can help you see & understand what is happening in your life, they can advise and discuss things on subjects that you have nobody else to talk to about. In essence a guardian angel, a person who helps you see your path and how to take the right path in times of distress. The psychics at Psychic Reading Hotline were great and I was very pleased with the result. Don’t get me wrong, I now know that the psychics from the other lines were good, its only when I was talking to the psychics at Psychic Reading Hotline that it dawned on me how valuable the information was I got from the psychics.

In Conclusion, psychic readings are there to help, they have extraordinary gifts to see what us normal people cannot see, or could see if we could drop the constraints if seeing the truth out there. Psychics are not there to solve all your problems, but merely a guide which otherwise you would not have!
